WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Marquette University women's volleyball team took care of business on Friday evening with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-20) win over Georgetown at McDonough Arena.
The Golden Eagles (12-6, 4-2) were paced by redshirt freshmen Taylor Louis and Jenna Rosenthal who each recorded 10 kills apiece with Rosenthal connecting at a .533 clip. Redshirt junior Meghan Niemann tallied eight kills with just one error to hit .700 and had three blocks in the match. Junior setter Sara Blasier handed out 31 assists, while classmate Lauren Houg collected 13 digs.
The first set was close throughout with 18 tied scores and 12 lead changes. Louis connected for a kill to tie the set at 23 points before her and junior Joy Miley hit consecutive kills to help MU close out the first set with a 26-24 win. The Golden Eagles led 7-4 early in the second set, but allowed Georgetown to come back and tied the score at 13 points. The squads traded points back and forth in the frame before Niemann smashed a final kill for the win. The third set began in a similar fashion with a 10-4 lead by MU, but the Hoyas used a 7-2 run to remain competitive and closed the gap at one point, a 12-11 lead for Marquette. The Golden Eagles did not trail in the third and secured the win with two consecutive aces from Blasier.
Marquette hit .295 as a squad in the match and had seven total blocks.
Marquette will travel to Creighton to face the first-place Bluejays on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. CT, live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FOX Sports Go. Brad Burwell and Erin Russell will call the action from Omaha.
