MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team picked up another BIG EAST Conference victory Sunday afternoon over Connecticut 25-18, 25-22, 11-25, 25-23.

The Golden Eagles (11-7, 3-2 BIG EAST) were led by 13 kills from junior outside hitter Ciara Jones, who also recorded five digs and four blocks in the match. Ashley Beyer and Rabbecka Gonyo each reached double figures with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

The Huskies (2-14, 0-5 BIG EAST) were led by 12 kills from junior outside hitter Jordan Kirk and 24 digs from libero Kelsey Maving.

Marquette took command by hitting .600 in the opening set with 16 kills and only one error on 25 total attacks. Gonyo led MU with six kills in the frame, while freshman libero Julie Jeziorowski added seven digs. The Golden Eagles never trailed in the first set and forced UConn timeouts at 9-4 and 18-14.

Both teams struggled with their attack percentages in the second set as MU hit .188 (12-6-32), while UConn managed a meager .161 (11-6-31). The frame featured 10 ties and three lead changes, the only ones of the match. Beyer led MU with four kills as the Golden Eagles pulled out a 25-22 win.

Connecticut controlled the third set from the first point and held Marquette to a hitting percentage of -.200 (4-10-30) to claim a 25-11 victory. The 11 points the Golden Eagles managed were a season low for MU, who lost the third set 25-13 to Northwestern on Sept. 18 and the fifth and final frame to Georgetown 15-11 on Sept. 26.

Jones stepped up for Marquette in the fourth frame with six kills to close out the match with a 25-23 victory.

In a pre-match ceremony, Marquette head coach Bond Shymansky was presented with a volleyball commemorating his 200th career victory recorded Friday night over St. John's.

The Golden Eagles return to action Wednesday, Oct. 13 at Green Bay at 7 p.m.
