Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team gave Conference USA leading Tulane all it could handle Friday evening before falling short to the Green Wave in four hotly contested games. Tulane captured its 12th straight match with a 30-27, 28-30, 32-30, 31-29 decision over the Golden Eagles. With the win, TU raised its overall mark to 19-2 overall, 5-0 in conference outings, while Marquette slipped to 5-13 in all contests, 2-3 in league affairs.

The match was a defensive tug-of-war with Marquette finishing with a 15.2 hitting percentage (68-35--217) compared to the Green Wave's 21.1 percent (72-30--199). Tulane held a 93-87 edge in digs and a decisive 17-6 margin in total blocks.

Junior Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) led the Marquette effort with a match-high tying 21 attacks (tying her career best) while contributing 18 digs, her seventh double double of the year. Senior Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) picked up 15 kills while sophomore Theresa Coughlin (Chicago) rounded out the team's double-figure attackers with 11. Freshman Jamie Mueller (Richfield, Wis.) paced the Golden Eagles with 23 digs, her second-highest total, while senior Gemma Greer dished out 59 assists.

Marquette will close out the weekend with a road date at Southern Miss on Saturday (Oct. 18) beginning at 7:00 p.m.
