Coming off a career game against Butler the last time out where she posted a 30-kill, 25-dig effort, the sophomore outside hitter also notched a team-high nine digs and hit .419.
Senior right-side hitter Lindsey Gosh added another seven kills for the Golden Eagles (15-5, 6-2 BIG EAST) and freshman setter Gabby Benda registered 28 assists. Middle hitter Teal Schnurr led MU with four blocks.
The Wildcats (10-13, 3-5 BIG EAST) were led by sophomore outside hitter Claire Crutchfield and her nine kills on .263 hitting. Junior outside hitter Colleen Hickey added eight kills and four digs.
VU has now lost eight matches in a row to the Golden Eagles.
Marquette took the opening frame 25-16 on the back of Bailey's 10 kills and .714 hitting percentage. MU hit .515 as a team in the first set while Villanova hit .292.
Three straight kills from Bailey gave MU a 16-9 lead midway through the first set and MU would lead by as many as 10 points before putting the match away on another Bailey kill.
Marquette took a 2-0 set advantage heading into the intermission, led by another four kills from Bailey. The Burlington, Ontario, native had 14 kills and hit .500 through the first two frames. MU and VU went back and forth to start the second set but MU was able to firmly regain control after a Benda kill put MU ahead 17-10.
The Wildcats kept MU on its toes in the third set, with the Golden Eagles narrowly taking the set and match, 25-23. Bailey led all attackers in the third frame with seven kills behind six assists from Benda.
Villanova went on a 4-0 run to tie the set at 18 points and MU would take a 22-19 lead before another 3-0 VU run tied the match at 22. Bailey hit a roll shot from the back row for her 20th kill of the match and a Benda/Meghan Niemann combined block gave MU separation. The following point, a Villanova kill kept the Wildcats alive, bringing the set to 24-23 in favor of MU, but another Bailey kill brought the third set and match to a close.
MU improves its record at the Al McGuire Center to 5-2 in 2014.
Marquette's next match is Saturday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. against BIG EAST Conference-leading Seton Hall (8-0) at the Al McGuire Center.
