MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University women's volleyball team, led by Taylor Louis who tallied 20 kills in the match, took down BIG EAST foe, St. John's, in straight sets, 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-14) at the Al McGuire Center on Saturday evening.

Junior Teal Schnurr tallied six kills for Marquette (14-7, 6-3) and hit .364 in the match, while classmate Sara Blasier handed out a match-high 31 assists. Junior Ellen Hays collected 11 digs, while libero Lauren Houg added 10. Redshirt Meghan Niemann had three blocks in the nine that the Golden Eagles combined to tally.

The Golden Eagles came out firing, taking an early 19-7 lead in the first set, thanks in part to an 11-2 run led by Louis who notched six of her nine first set kills in that stretch. A late 4-0 run from St. John's (14-10, 4-5) was negated by Teal Schnurr who closed out the set with her second kill on the evening. The Golden Eagles hit .345 in the set, and held the Red Storm to .207.

Marquette used a series of runs in the second set to take a 16-7 lead, midway through. However, the Red Storm battled back, cutting their deficit to four before an ace from Houg, followed by an Erin Lehman kill, which gave MU a two set advantage.

Marquette stayed sharp out of the break, using a 14-1 run in the third set to grab a decisive lead, one they would not relinquish. MU clinched the match point off a St. John's attack error. MU has won its last two matches in three sets, and clinched its first perfect weekend since the start of the season.

The Golden Eagles hit a stellar .330 on the day and held St. John's to just a .131 percentage with no blocks in the match.

Marquette will continue a five-match home stretch and begin the second half of BIG EAST play on Friday, Oct. 23 when the squad hosts Seton Hall at 7:00 p.m. Central time.
