MU Scores NCAA-Record 117 Points in 3-1 Win vs. Seton Hall

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team set an NCAA record by scoring 117 points in a four-set match to beat Seton Hall 32-34, 25-20, 25-23, 35-33 at the Al McGuire Center on Saturday night. The previous record was set by Cal State Fullerton (114) in 2009.

Sophomore outside hitter Autumn Bailey led the Golden Eagles (16-5, 7-2 BIG EAST) with 25 kills while Lindsey Gosh added 17 kills of her own while hitting .277. Freshman Gabby Benda added a career-high 60 assists in Marquette's winning effort. Bailey also set a career and program high with 89 attacks.

Stacey Manthorpe, the only Seton Hall player with a double digit kill total, had 26 and hit .319. The Pirates (18-4, 8-1 BIG EAST) hit a combined .206 in the loss.

The Pirates won the first set 34-32, which was dominated by the Golden Eagles. After leading by as much as seven, Marquette trailed for the first time at 28-27 after a kill by Seton Hall junior Amanda Hansen. Both teams fought off set points before Seton Hall prevailed on an attack error by Bailey.

A pair of runs by the Golden Eagles in the second set led to a 25-20 victory over Seton Hall. Five-to-one and 5-2 runs in the middle of the set gave MU a 17-13 lead. After Seton Hall battled to within two of Marquette, Bailey and Gosh combined for back-to-back kills to help MU regain their four point lead, 22-18.

The Golden Eagles held on for a 25-23 win in the third set after Seton Hall battled off four set points to force the Golden Eagles to call their second timeout of the set. After the timeout, Jackie Kocken recorded her fourth kill of the night, leading to the set victory. Bailey also added six kills of her own in the third set.

Marquette completed the victory by topping Seton Hall 35-33 in the fourth set. The longest set of the season, beating the previous high which was recorded in the first set of tonight's match. Stacey Manthorpe notched a frame-high 10 kills in the fourth set, while Bailey added six for MU.

MU will face Seton Hall again on November 14 at 7 p.m. in South Orange, New Jersey.

The Golden Eagles head to Omaha, Nebraska for a Friday showdown between last year's conference finalists at the site of the championship match, where MU defeated Creighton 3-1. The Bluejays topped Marquette 3-1 in the previous meeting this season on Saturday, Oct. 4 in Milwaukee.
