MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's volleyball team made quick work of DePaul on Saturday evening at the Al McGuire Center with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 sweep.
The Golden Eagles (12-5) improve to 4-1 in BIG EAST Conference action with the win and move into a tie for first place with Creighton, whom they will host on Friday, Oct. 25 in their next match.
Freshmen outside hitters Autumn Bailey and Nele Barber continued to terrorize the Blue Demons this season with 14 kills and 12 kills respectively. Bailey had a career high 29 kills and Barber 18 in the two squads’ last meeting on Sept. 28 in Chicago.
Senior setter Elizabeth Koberstein paced the Marquette offense to a .375 hitting percentage with 36 assists, while also contributing a career-high eight kills to the cause. She hit .889 with zero errors on nine total attacks.
The Blue Demons (15-4, 1-4 BIG EAST) were paced by 11 kills by senior middle blocker Natalie Rizzo who hit .647 in the contest. Marquette was able to contain outside hitter Vesela Zapryanova and right-side hitter Abbie Fleener who hit just -.050 and .105, respectively.
Marquette got out to an early 6-0 lead in the first set and never looked back on its way to a 25-19 victory while hitting .333.
The Golden Eagles hit a frame-high .406 (16-3-32) in the second set and led throughout before closing the stanza 25-18 on a Meghan Niemann kill. Niemann led MU in the second with five kills on seven swings.
Bailey and Barber led the way in the third and final frame to a 25-19 win with seven kills and five kills, respectively.
MU has won six-straight matches against DePaul and 13 of 14 overall.

The Golden Eagles host three matches over Oct. 25-27 at the Al McGuire Center, beginning with BIG EAST preseason favorite Creighton on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m., just prior to men's basketball's Haunted Hoops scrimmage.
MU will then welcome Villanova on Saturday and Georgetown on Sunday. The weekend is Marquette's Alumni Weekend, capped by Marquette's annual Dig Pink match against the Hoyas.
