MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team topped Villanova 25-23, 25-21, 27-25 for its third sweep in as many matches on Saturday evening at the Al McGuire Center.

Freshman outside hitter Autumn Bailey led the Golden Eagles (14-5, 6-1 BIG EAST) with 12 kills, while redshirt freshman Meghan Niemann added 11 kills and hit .400.

Lauren Carpenter led the Wildcats (11-10, 3-5 BIG EAST) with a match-high 15 kills.

Marquette took the opening set 25-23 and was led by five kills from Bailey.

The Golden Eagles used a 6-0 run midway through the second frame and went on to win the stanza 25-21. That run gave MU a 19-13 edge and was capped by a kill from Nele Barber who had seven kills in the match.

Villanova sat at set point, 24-23, in the third set before Marquette rallied for the 27-25 win. Sophomore Erin Lehman answered out of a timeout with a kill to knot the frame at 24 and Bailey ended the match with consecutive kills.

The Golden Eagles return to action against Georgetown on Sunday at 1 p.m. The weekend is Marquette's Alumni Weekend and is capped by Marquette's annual Dig Pink match against the Hoyas.
