CINCINNATI - The Marquette University women's volleyball squad was unable to snap Cincinnati's 23-match home unbeaten streak Friday evening, falling to the Bearcats in a 3-0 decision (25-21, 25-14, 25-13).

The Golden Eagles (15-10, 4-6 BIG EAST) were led by junior Rabbecka Gonyo's eight kills and four blocks. MU ended the match hitting .094 (30-21-96) as a team, marking its lowest hitting percentage since .027 (21-19-73) at Michigan on Sept. 18.

Marquette managed only nine kills in the first set and hit .081 (9-6-37) as a team. UC led the entire first frame, jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead, although they would never lead by more than four. Marquette managed to tie the set four times but was unable to pull ahead, dropping a 25-21 decision.

In the second, MU was able to stick with Cincinnati early in the stanza, taking its last lead at 5-4. From there the Bearcats pulled away and lengthened their lead throughout, winning 25-14.

With the score tied 3-3 in the third, UC used a 7-0 run, powered by three kills from Missy Herpenau, to build a 10-3 advantage. A kill from Gonyo ended the Bearcat point streak at seven but the Golden Eagles did not pull any closer than six points before losing 25-13.

The Bearcats (18-8, 8-1 BIG EAST) have now won 24 straight matches at Fifth Third Arena, dating back to 2007, and were led by Stephanie Niemer with 14 kills. Setter Annie Fesl recorded a double-double with 29 assists and 11 digs.

The Golden Eagles will next make the trek to Louisville to take on the Cardinals Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT.
