It was a similar story in the second set, as MU jumped out to a 13-6 lead, spearheaded by a 8-1 run which featured three kills from Jenna Rosenthal. Marquette did not allow the Hoyas back into it, closing out the stanza, 25-15. MU improved both offensively and defensively in the set, hitting .296 and holding GU to just .027.
MU came out of the break in even better form, going on a 14-2 run en route to a 17-5 lead in the set. In that stretch, Erin Lehman and Meghan Niemann accounted for seven kills combined. The Hoyas made a late charge in the frame, pulling within six, but the Golden Eagles were able to close the door, winning the set 25-17.
Marquette finished the match hitting .314, while Georgetown hit just .144. Lehman finished with ten kills in the match, while hitting .450. Niemann also had an impressive night, tallying eight kills and hitting .462.
