Marquette Records Seventh Straight Home Sweep Over St. John's

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team picked up its seventh straight sweep at the Al McGuire Center with a 25-20, 25-23, 25-17 victory over St. John's on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles (19-5, 11-1 BIG EAST) extended their set winning streak at the Al McGuire Center to 22 frames in a row with the win. Freshman outside hitter Autumn Bailey led Marquette with 16 kills, while middle hitter Meghan Niemann added 10 kills.

Senior setter Elizabeth Koberstein paced MU to a hitting mark of .343, while freshman middle Teal Schnurr continued to lead the lead the way with six kills after a career-best eight on Friday evening.

Sophomore Karin Palgutova paced the Red Storm (15-13, 4-8 BIG EAST) with 16 kills and 11 digs. Reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week Yaidy Santiago hit just .167 with five kills in the loss.

The Golden Eagles captured a tight first set which featured 12 ties and five lead changes 25-20 while hitting a combined .424. Bailey, Niemann, Nele Barber and Lindsey Gosh all chipped in four kills in the first.

Bailey led MU to a 25-23 victory in the second set with a frame-high eight kills as Marquette hit a match-low .209 as a squad. St. John's tied the stanza at 23 on an Ashley Boursiquot kill before MU closed out the set with a kill from Bailey and a Gosh service ace.

The Golden Eagles used a 7-1 run midway through the third and final frame before holding on for a 25-17 win, their 22nd-straight set victory at home.

Marquette returns to action on Friday, Nov. 15 at Seton Hall before facing the Red Storm again on Sunday, Nov. 17 in Queens, N.Y.
