PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Led by Jenna Rosenthal's 14 kill, the Marquette women's volleyball team easily handled Providence on Sunday afternoon defeating the Friars in straight sets, 25-12, 25-18, 25-18. With the victory, MU has secured a berth into the BIG EAST Tournament held Nov. 27-28.

Rosenthal had a stellar day at the net with 14 kills, just one error to hit a blistering .722 for the Golden Eagles (20-9, 11-5). Meghan Niemann and Joy Miley each added nine kills, while Niemann had no errors for a .500 hitting percentage. Sara Blasier handed out 40 assists, while Lauren Houg collected 18 digs in the match.

Marquette had a good hitting day as the squad combined to hit .377 with just nine total errors, while the defense showed its skill, holding Providence (10-20, 1-15) to just a .104 clip.

"I thought the highlights of the match were our passing, the strong play of the defense and the skill of our middles today," head coach Ryan Theis said.

The Golden Eagles will conclude the regular season next weekend with a trip to Butler and Xavier with BIG EAST Tournament seeding on the line. MU faces Butler on Friday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. Central time.
