CINCINNATI, Ohio-- The Marquette University women's volleyball team finished the BIG EAST regular season with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 19-25) loss at Xavier on Saturday, but with an 11-5 league record the squad has earned the No. 2 seed in the 2016 BIG EAST Tournament.

Marquette (23-7, 13-5) and Xavier (19-12, 13-5) finished in a tie for the second straight season, but Marquette earned the No. 2 seed through tie breaker policies due to the Golden Eagles' sweep over the Musketeers earlier this season in Milwaukee.

In Saturday's match, MU was led by Taylor Louis with 22 kills, while fellow redshirt sophomore Jenna Rosenthal connected for 11 kills and hit at a .476 clip with just one error. Freshman Allie Barber notched 10 kills through the four sets.

Senior setter Sara Blasier handed out 45 assists as classmate Lauren Houg collected 14 digs and freshman Madeline Mosher recorded 11.

As a team, the Golden Eagles combined to hit .263, but the Musketeers held a narrow margin with a .289 clip and had eight team blocks.

After dropping the first set, Marquette trailed in the second frame, 14-8, before a 12-1 run had flipped the advantage to the Golden Eagles, 20-15, which sent Xavier into a timeout. After the break four errors from Xavier and a kill from Barber led MU to a 25-19 win.

With the match even at 1-1, Marquette came out of the break and struggled down the stretch of the third set hitting just .093 and let Xavier jump to an early lead in the fourth set, and the Golden Eagles trailed throughout.

The Golden Eagles will open the BIG EAST Conference Tournament on Friday, Nov. 25 against No. 3 seed Xavier at either 11:30 or 2 p.m. Central time. The semifinals will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with the championship match slated to air on FS2. The tournament is hosted by Butler in Indianapolis, Indiana at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
