MU Defeats Butler in Straight Sets

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.--Redshirt freshmen Taylor Louis and Jenna Rosenthal each recorded double digit kills as the Marquette University women's volleyball team defeated Butler in straight sets, 25-18, 25-14, 25-15, on Friday evening at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Louis connected on a match-high 18 kills, while hitting a .410 clip as Rosenthal connected on 11 kills with no errors to hit at a stellar .733 percentage. Joy Miley added eight kills for Marquette (21-9, 12-5).
MU had a great offensive night as the squad committed just five total hitting errors and totaled a .411 clip, while holding Butler to just a .119 hitting percentage.
The Bulldogs (11-19, 7-10) opened the match strong, jumping out to a 6-2 lead in the first frame, but a slew of errors from Butler, along with three straight kills from Louis and MU had pulled away to a 14-10 advantage. Louis and Blasier scored three straight points for the Golden Eagles to close out the set.
MU firmly dominated the second stanza and had pushed to a 15-6 lead in the third after Meghan Niemann connected on a kill. Butler scored four straight points with two aces and two kills, to close the gap at 18-12, but Riley Burchett served for four points and two errors from the Bulldogs ended the match.
The Golden Eagles conclude the regular season on Saturday with a contest at Xavier. The match will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FOX Sports Go and will begin at 6 p.m. Central time.
