Volleyball Announces 2011 Spring Schedule
Feb. 25, 2011
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team will begin its spring campaign on Saturday, March 26 at the Great Lakes Center Collegiate Tournament in Aurora, Ill.
"We are excited for another great spring season," head coach Bond Shymansky said. "We have some roles to fill, and some roles to change, but the exciting part is having so many returning players again this year. It's extra time to work together and truly gel as a team."
The Golden Eagles will also travel the following Saturday, April 2 to Madison, Wis., for a tournament at Wisconsin.
MU will close out its spring season with home dates against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Northwestern at the Al McGuire Center on Thursday, April 7 and Thursday, April 14, respectively.
Both home matches will begin at 7 p.m. and are free to attend. Drills by each team will precede the matches at 4 p.m. with a dinner break at 6 p.m.
During the spring of 2010, Marquette defeated two 2009 Final Four teams in reigning national runner-up the University of Texas and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. MU completed the spring a perfect 10-0.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a season in which they set school records for wins (23), BIG EAST Conference victories (11) and had a 14-match winning streak. MU also reached the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals for the second time in school history after a third-place regular season finish in league play.
