Theresa Coughlin Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior outsider hitter Theresa Coughlin was named BIG EAST Player of the Week announced by conference officials today. Coughlin is the first Golden Eagle to earn the honor as she helped Marquette to win the Holiday Inn Milwaukee Centre Volleyball Kick-off Championship and was named tournament MVP.

Coughlin earned the honor for her outstanding performance last weekend helping the Golden Eagles to go 2-1 in the tournament defeating North Dakota State (3-0) and Virginia Commonwealth University (3-1), before falling to Pacific (3-1) in the tournament finale.

She tallied 50 total kills on the weekend, breaking Marquette's all-time kills record, and currently has 1,313 for her career. Posting double-figures in each match with 12 against NDSU, 23 against VCU and 15 against Pacific, Coughlin averaged 4.55 kills per game and hit 25.3 percent on the weekend. She also contributed on defense recording two solo blocks and five assisted blocks.

Marquette returns to action next weekend when it hosts the Marquette Challenge featuring Iowa, New Hampshire and IUPUI beginning Friday, September 2. IUPUI will face New Hampshire to open tournament play at 4:30 p.m., while the Golden Eagles will meet Iowa at 7 p.m.
