Marquette hosts Northwestern on April 2
March 14, 2016

MILWAUKEE--After a successful 2015 campaign that ended in the second-round of the NCAA Tournament, the Marquette University women’s volleyball team is readying itself for spring competition and is excited to use this time to focus in improving for the 2016 season beginning in the fall.

For six weeks, Marquette is allowed 20 hours a week of practice time and has four game dates, which comprises the Golden Eagles’ spring schedule, slated to begin Saturday, April 2 hosting Northwestern at 4:30 p.m.

“The spring is extremely important for skill development,” head coach Ryan Theis explained.  “This is when we get better and work on implementing the pieces that we need to be successful.”

For Theis, he uses the spring as a trial and error period and works on learning new techniques and expanding the Golden Eagles game for plays that can be used next fall.  Freshmen Abby Julian and Amanda Green, who redshirted during the 2015 season, will be active and see playing time during the spring, which will help Marquette implement the duo into its current system.

The spring will also serve as a primer for Marquette’s upcoming summer foreign tour, which will take the Golden Eagles to Rome, Venice, and Milan, Italy, as well as Prague, Czech Republic and Salzburg and Innsbruck, Austria for 10 days beginning May 31.  Current graduating seniors Mary Nilles and Erin Lehman will join the Golden Eagles and be available to play.

“We are very excited for our foreign tour, which is a first for Marquette volleyball, and we look forward to challenging ourselves with excellent competition, which will help us prepare for the fall season,” Theis said.
