MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team kicked off the 2012 spring season Saturday at the Al McGuire Center with matches against Green Bay, Loyola (Ill.) and Wisconsin.

The Golden Eagles swept the first two matches against Loyola (25-19, 25-17) and Green Bay (25-11, 28-26) before falling in the final match to the Badgers (25-23, 27-29, 25-21, 25-17).

Freshman setter Chelsea Heier and senior middle hitter Danielle Carlson each returned to the court after All-American fall campaigns. Freshman Lindsey Gosh saw a bulk of the minutes at outside hitter, as did sophomore outside hitter Casey Read as MU looks to replace the prolific duo of Ashley Beyer and Ciara Jones.

Marquette continues the spring season 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29 against Milwaukee at the Al McGuire Center.
