AURORA, Ill. - Led into action for the first time by new head coach Ryan Theis, the Marquette University women's volleyball team went 2-1 on Saturday at the 2014 Mizuno Great Lakes Center Spring Collegiate Tournament.

"I thought we've improved a lot in the past three weeks," Theis said. "We have a long way to go but I'm really excited the way the team is learning"

The Golden Eagles swept Theis' alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Milwuakee 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-16) and Southern Illinois (25-16, 28-26, 15-9) before falling to Michigan State (25-18, 25-15, 25-23) in their final match.

Marquette returns to spring action on Wednesday, April 2 when they host reigning-NCAA national runner-up Wisconsin at the Al McGuire Center at 6:30 p.m. for drills.
