USA Volleyball Release
MILWAUKEE -- USA Volleyball selected Marquette University redshirt freshman Jenna Rosenthal to be one of 36 participants in the U.S. Collegiate National Team (CNT) program this summer, the organization announced Thursday.
"I'm very excited for this opportunity for Jennabecause of all the hard work she has put forth," Marquette head coach Ryan Theis said."She has been improving since she arrived on campus and this will help prepare her for the upcoming season."
Rosenthal attended a tryout for USA Volleyball in late February alongside more than 200 other athletes vying for spots on the various national teams. As a member of the CNT (formerly the Senior A2 Team), Rosenthal will train at the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships (GJNC) in New Orleans from June 21-25. Then, the 36 CNT athletes will be split into three teams that will play in a round-robin tournament from June 26-29.
"USA Volleyball is excited to bring these three dozen outstanding collegiate athletes together for the College National Team program in New Orleans," USA Volleyball Senior Director Tom Pingel said in a USA Volleyball press release. "It's always beneficial to the development of our National Team pipeline to get this group in the gym during the summer, as well as in front of the juniors playing at the GJNC so they can see the next level of play. Over the past four years, our CNT athletes have served as outstanding role models for these younger athletes."
Standing at 6-foot-5, Rosenthal is one of nine middle blockers on the roster and she is the only freshman, redshirt or otherwise, to be selected. The Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, native is also the only BIG EAST player named to the team.
Rosenthal redshirted her freshman season in 2014, but entered Marquette as a two-year varsity letter winner from Fond du Lac High School, where she served as team captain during her senior year. She was an all-conference selection in 2013, hitting .422 and averaging almost four kills and just over one block per set.
In 2013, former Marquette volleyball standout Elizabeth Koberstein helped her U.S. Volleyball A2 team to a silver medal in the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Senior A2 Program.
