MILWAUKEE- The Marquette women's volleyball team was victorious in its only home match of the 2015 spring season on Saturday against Northwestern.
"It was really nice to see that four weeks into the spring I thought we played better each week," said head coach Ryan Theis. "I thought we've had good moments in practice, but I thought we played three pretty good games in a row (vs. Northwestern) and everyone played relatively well."
The Golden Eagles were able to take all three sets from the Wildcats, 25-21, 28-26, 15-13 and improved their record on the spring campaign to 5-3.
Freshman Taylor Louis and redshirt sophomore Meghan Niemann led Marquette's offensive attack combining for 25 kills and three blocks.
"Taylor had a great defensive day and has been working hard at playing all six rotations and hitting out of the back row," said Theis. "I thought that was one of the better matches she's played in these four weeks."
Newcomer Sara Blaiser also showed well, notching 27 assists.
Northwestern featured a balanced attack offensively, with five players posting at least five kills, including sophomore Kayla Morin who led the Wildcats with eight. Sophomore setter Caleigh Ryan also added a kill to go along with her team-high 17 assists.
"With two weeks of practice left, we have a lineup now that we are committed to going into Milwaukee," said Theis. "It would be great to see us play well all day against all three opponents so we know we've definitely improved in four weeks of preparation."
Marquette's next test will be the spring season finale on Saturday April 25, when the Golden Eagles will match-up with the Milwaukee Panthers at the Klotsche Center.
