MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University volleyball head coach Ryan Theis has announced the schedule for the 2017 season, which includes 10 matches held at the Al McGuire Center and seven opponents that competed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

The Golden Eagles will open up the season in Honolulu, Hawaii from Aug. 25-27 against a trio of 2016 NCAA Tournament teams, which include Hawaii, UCLA and San Diego. The Bruins advanced through the quarterfinals as a No. 10 seed in 2016 and finished the season with a 27-7 record.

The road stint continues in the continental United States for another three-match swing. Marquette will take on Miami (Ohio, Sept. 1), Wichita State (Sept. 2) and IUPUI (Sept. 2). The matchup with the Jaguars marks the third consecutive year the two programs have faced one another. In the last meeting, Marquette blanked IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana 3-0.

Marquette returns to Milwaukee for the home opener and annual Marquette Invitational Friday, Sept. 8- Sunday, Sept. 10. The Golden Eagles first face Kentucky, another tournament team last season, and finish with a matchup against Loyola on Sunday.

The Golden Eagles will make an in-state road trip to Milwaukee on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. Central time and Wisconsin on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. CT. While in Madison, Marquette will also face Southern Mississippi on Sept. 15, marking the 15th meeting in program history.

"We have an extremely challenging non-conference schedule," Theis said. "We will have to get our group ready to compete in a hurry. We will be battle tested by the time we start BIG EAST play and we are excited to have the conference tournament back at Marquette in November. Our goal is to get another shot at December and make the most of it."

The 2017 BIG EAST campaign will begin at Butler on Wednesday, Sept. 20 with first serve slated for 6 p.m. CT. Following the matchup, the Golden Eagles host Seton Hall and St. John's for the weekend of Sept. 22-23 before traveling to Xavier on Sept. 27.

Marquette welcomes DePaul to the Al McGuire Center on Sept. 30 for the final match of 14 in the month of September.

MU hosts reigning BIG EAST regular season and tournament champions Creighton on Thursday, Oct. 5. The Blue Jays advanced to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history last season. The Golden Eagles will host Providence a day later (Oct. 6) for a 5 p.m. CT conference matchup.

After a week off, Marquette travels to Villanova (Oct. 14) and Georgetown (Oct. 15) before returning home again to host Xavier (Oct. 20).

Marquette will play St. John's and Seton Hall in a road swing to the East Coast from Friday, Oct. 27- Saturday, Oct. 28.

MU heads to Omaha, Neb., on Nov. 4 to take on Creighton before heading to Providence a day later (Nov. 5) for a Sunday afternoon matinee.

The Golden Eagles will host a pair of matches against the Hoyas (Nov. 10) and the Wildcats (Nov. 11) before finishing out the regular season with DePaul in Chicago (Nov. 17).

Marquette will host the 2017 BIG EAST Volleyball Tournament at the Al McGuire Center from Friday, Nov. 24- Saturday, Nov. 25.

MU will lose nine players from last year's squad that helped earn a sixth-straight NCAA Tournament berth. Six Golden Eagles will return while the team welcomes eight newcomers, including Kortlyn Henderson, Elizabeth Orf, Sarah Rose, Hope Werch, Gabbi Martinez, Liza Kastrup, Kayli Trausch and Martha Konovodoff.

Both Henderson and Martinez join Marquette from Texas.
