MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University head women's volleyball coach Ryan Theis announced the addition of two Midwest natives to the program in defensive specialists Riley Burchett and Abby Julian.

The pair will have four years of eligibility remaining once they arrive on campus during the summer of 2015.

"I am very excited to have Abby and Riley join the program," Theis said of the additions. "Riley has a great touch on the ball and her passing skills will help us. She comes with a great deal of experience and played high-level club volleyball."

Burchett, from Burr Ridge, Illinois, was a four-year letter winner at Nazareth Academy where she was co-captain her senior year. The libero won the ISHA regional title her sophomore year and was part of the 1st Alliance Volleyball Club. With 1st Alliance, Burchett took 12th place at the U15 Nationals and fifth at U16 Nationals, while being named to the U16 all-tournament team.

Julian was a three-year letter winner at St. Francis DeSales as a setter and defensive specialist, where she led the Stallions to three straight state semifinal berths, as well as regional, district and league titles. In addition, she played seven years of club volleyball, five being at the national level for the Elite Volleyball Training Center where she finished second in the North Coast Power League in 2014 and third at the Midwest Asics Power League in 2015.

"Abby is the ultimate gym rat and she loves to be in the gym, both training and competing," Theis said. "She will add setting and back row play to our gym."

Burchett and Julian join fall signee Amanda Green and transfers Joy Miley from Long Beach State and Sara Blasier from Rice University as newcomers eligible to play this fall.
