Volleyball Adds Coello to 2008 Recruiting Class
May 27, 2008
MILWAUKEE - Marquette volleyball head coach Pati Rolf announced Monday that Alex Coello (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles East) has committed to continue her education and play volleyball at Marquette University. Coello is the seventh and final recruit of the Golden Eagles' 2008 incoming class. She will join fellow freshmen Laira Akin, Amy Deelo, Sammie Hertaus, Ciara Jones, Holly Mertens and Tiara Russell on campus in August. "Alex is very passionate about Marquette and her family has a strong commitment to the university as well," said Rolf. "She is a tremendous volleyball player and has incredible discipline and work ethic. Academically, she is superior. For our team, bringing in student-athletes who have a foundation within their academics is critical to help the team and support the program. She is a late add, but she is exceptional and will bring up the level of our program in all aspects." Coello, a libero/defensive specialist whose speed and stamina are her greatest defensive weapons, earned three varsity letters at St. Charles East. Colleo finished her senior season with 314 digs and 34 service aces earning her first team all-Upstate Eight Conference, academic all-conference, all-area and all-tricities accolades. For the 2007 season, Coello was integral part of the Saints squad that took third-place in the 4A Illinois State Tournament, won a second consecutive conference co-championship, as well as regional, sectional and super-sectional titles. During her junior season in 2006, Coello averaged 2.16 digs per game and was named honorable mention all-conference and academic all-conference. She helped the Saints to a conference co-championship and a regional title.
