Golden Eagles Recruiting Class Ranked No. 21 In Country

MILWAUKEE--The incoming recruiting class for the Marquette University volleyball program has been named No. 21 in the country, according to, which is the second straight year that the program has earned a top-25 recruiting class ranking.

The Golden Eagles 2017 class of newcomers is expected to be one of the largest classes in program history, and is the highest ranked in the BIG EAST, adding seven freshmen and two transfers.

Elizabeth Orf joins Milwaukee as MU's top-ranked recruit at No. 39 on the Senior Ace list. She is from St. Louis, Missouri where she is a four-year letterwinner at Villa Duchesne. Along with her high ranking, she was named a PrepVolleyball Club All-American honors. Orf holds Villa Duchesne's career kills record with over 1,100 kills and has recorded 545 digs in the past two seasons, while earning first team all-state, all-region, all-district and all-conference honors in her junior year.

Hope Werch, an Under Armour honorable mention All-American and local resident from Neenah, Wisconsin, is an outside hitter from Neenah High School. Werch is a two-time first team all-State selection and a three-time unanimous Player of the Year in the FVA Conference. Hope was named the Northeast Wisconsin 2016 Player of the Year and led Neenah High School to their first Division I state title since 1978, as well as four consecutive regional championships. Werch has tallied 1,918 kills, hit .322 and collected 1,543 digs throughout her four-year career. She will be an immediate impact on the program this year.

Also ranked is Kortlyn Henderson who joins Marquette from Waco, Texas was a two-time captain and outside hitter at University High School. She is a top-250 PrepVolleyball Senior Ace and was named a 2015 and 2016 first team All-District after setting her high school record for most kills in a game with 32 and averaging the most kills in a season with 455 kills. Henderson was the district MVP runner-up as a junior and a Wendy's High School Heisman selection in 2016. Henderson is a high level athlete that will provide an immediate impact in the Golden Eagles' lineup.



Sarah Rose a setter from Elmhust, Illinois, was named a 2016 AVCA All-American nominee, a 2016 West Suburban All-Conference selection and a 2016 all-area team member. Through four years, Rose has amassed 2,605 assists and 865 digs. She will bring to the team incredible ball control skills, which will greatly help the team this year.

Gabbi Martinez, a defensive specialist, comes to Marquette from Austin Texas. Martinez tallied 608 career digs and was an AVCA Under Armour All-American Honorable Mention selection in 2016. In her senior season, she averaged 4.9 digs per set, and led her club team, Austin Juniors, to an 18 USA Division National Championship.

Martha Konovodoff, who enters Marquette form Sugar Grove Illinois. Konovodoff was named to the Daily Herald all-area team three times. She also helped her squad capture the 2016 AAU national championship and was named to the JVA All-National Team in 2015. Konovodoff also recorded 1,660 career digs, and won four regional championships, throughout her high school career.

Liza Kastrup is Marquette's seventh freshmen and will bring a wealth of international experience to the Golden Eagles' lineup as she hails from Germany.

These seven will join fellow newcomers and transfers, Kayli Trausch (McHenry County College) and Anna Haak (University of Miami).

MU will open the season at Hawaii on Friday, August 25.
