Volleyball Recruiting Class Earns National Recognition
June 2, 2010
MILWAUKEE - Head coach Bond Shymansky's 2010 volleyball recruiting class was given "highest honorable mention" by PrepVolleyball.com, ranking it among the top-50 classes in the nation. "We are as excited as ever about our incoming class," Shymansky said. "It's great to get recognition like this from experts in our sport. We know the needs we have in the short term and long run, and we are positive that this class will meet those needs." After the numerical ranking of the top-30 classes, 20 recruiting hauls were grouped among the "highest honorable mention" category. Marquette is one of only four BIG EAST classes in the top 50, joining Notre Dame (13), Louisville (20) and Cincinnati (highest honorable mention) in that exclusive group. The rankings include all six players who have signed with Marquette for 2010. Setter Emma Brydels (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville H.S.), middle hitter Courtney Mrotek (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln H.S.) and outside hitter Casey Read (Chatham, N.J./Chatham H.S.) signed with Marquette during the November signing period. Defensive specialists Julie Jeziorowski (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central H.S.), Catherine Mayer (Neenah, WIs./Neenah H.S.) and Rachel Stier (San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd H.S.) all signed acceptance of admission forms during the spring. It is the second straight year that MU has earned the honor and only the third time that the Golden Eagles have been recognized by the website. Shymansky's highest rated class was in 2005 at Georgia Tech, which was ranked eighth in the nation, following consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference regular season championships.
