Marquette Volleyball Foreign Tour Day 4

June 4, 2016

ROME, Italy--Hello Marquette fans, this is Lauren Houg reporting currently from a train in route to Venice.

We’ve made many memories on this so far in just a few days. Our last day in Rome included a guided tour of the Colosseum with our same tour guide, Marta, who took us through Vatican City. In addition to the main amphitheater, we saw carvings in stone of names of the gladiators along with the smaller portion of the arena where the gladiators trained for their fights. We then had free time to “rome” around downtown before heading back to the hotel to get ready for our second match against a different Volleyro squad.

While waiting in line for the Coliseum, head coach Ryan Theis gave the team an update on the most current basketball win from the Golden State Warriors, stating that “The Warriors won last night.” Coincidentally, I noted that the same words may have been said in that same area just around two thousand years prior tying the most current form of entertainment to quite possibly the oldest.

The events have only just started for us as we leave Rome and head north for an exciting day in the city built on water. We get to store our luggage and explore Venice together before heading to our hotel later in the evening. I think we are all really excited for this next stop.

Meghan Niemann commented “I am excited most about taking a gondola ride today in Venice.” There are many shops and restaurants in the city and we can find just about anything if you go down the right canal.

We are in Venice for two nights and will play our third match tomorrow morning before getting free time the rest of the day.
