USA Volleyball Complete Recap

MILWAUKEE--Marquette University redshirt freshman Jenna Rosenthal recently concluded her time as a member of USA Volleyball's Collegiate National Team program. Rosenthal was one of 35 participants in the program and trained at the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships June 21-25 in New Orleans.

Rosenthal was assigned to CNT Red after the group was split into three teams for a mini-tournament and contributed eight points to the squad. CNT Red was led by Erin Fairs (Louisville) and Chelsey Harris (Rice) with 20 and 19 points, respectively, while Katie Brand (Kansas State) was the setter in all four sets.

CNT Blue went undefeated in its three matches in the tournament and won both its round robin matches with a 3-2 win over CNT White on June 27 and 3-1 win over CNT Red on June 26.

CNT Red reached the title match before falling to CNT Blue by defeating CNT White 25-12, 25-19, 27-25 in the play-in semifinal match earlier on Monday. Fairs took top scoring honors with 17 points, while Katie Horton (Florida State) chipped in 16 points. Stephenee Yancy (Illinois-Chicago) tacked on nine points in the victory. Brand set CNT Red to a 40 kill percent for the match.

"I was one of the youngest and least experienced in the program and it was a tremendous opportunity to play quality volleyball in the off season," Rosenthal said. "It was really quite a thrill to put on a USA jersey and play in front of the huge GJNC crowds. Having competed and contributed at that level has really opened my eyes to the possibilities of playing volleyball after college."

"I feel extremely fortunate and grateful to be chosen to be part of the USA Volleyball pipeline, but I still have much to learn and much experience to gain before I reach my peak as a player."

Standing at 6-foot-5, Rosenthal is one of nine middle blockers on the roster and she is the only freshman, redshirt or otherwise, to be selected. The Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, native is also the only BIG EAST player named to the team.
