Danielle Carlson is the Student-Athlete of the Week
July 16, 2012 MILWAUKEE - This week's GoMarquette.com Student-Athlete of the Week is 2011-12 BIG EAST Confernce Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award winner Danielle Carlson of the Marquette University women's volleyball team. Carlson, a senior-to-be psychology and theology double major, was a 2011 All-BIG EAST First Team selection after leading the conference and ranking 17th in the nation in hitting percentage (.385). The Marshfield, Wis., native carries a 3.7 grade point average and will serve as team captain for a second season in 2012. Carlson is Marquette’s all-time leader in career hitting percentage at .338 and was a three-time BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection in 2011, while earning AVCA All-American Honorable Mention. She also helped MU reach the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history as a junior and led Marquette to back-to-back 20-win campaigns for the first time as a member of NCAA Division I. The Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards were announced on June 22 and given to one student-athlete in each BIG EAST-sponsored sport based on academic credentials, athletic accolades or performances and volunteer service to the community. Student-athletes who have attained junior academic standing and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 are eligible.
