Marquette to Host BIG EAST Volleyball Championship
July 25, 2014
MILWAUKEE – Marquette University has been awarded the right to host the 2014 BIG EAST Conference Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Al McGuire Center for the third time in the last four seasons, the league announced on Friday.
The conference tournament will feature the top four teams from the regular-season standings of the 10-team league, with the semifinals slated for Friday, Nov. 28 and the title match on Saturday, Nov. 29.
“We are extremely pleased to host the BIG EAST tournament once again at the Al McGuire Center,” first-year Marquette head coach Ryan Theis said. “It is truly a great venue for collegiate volleyball and we look forward to seeing the top teams in the conference fight for the league’s automatic NCAA Championship berth over Thanksgiving weekend. We aim to defend the BIG EAST title on our home court with the Milwaukee community behind us.”
The Golden Eagles are the reigning BIG EAST regular season and conference champions after having captured their first-ever conference title last season. Marquette topped Butler, 3-1, in the semifinals last year before defeating tournament-host Creighton by the same tally in the finals.
Marquette, which has advanced to the league’s title match the last two seasons and the semifinals the last four years, also hosted the conference tournament in 2007, 2011 and 2012 at the Al McGuire Center.
Ticket information will be released as more details become available.
