AVCA Release

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Marquette University women’s volleyball team is receiving 102 points in the 2014 AVCA Division I Coaches Preseason Poll, the organization announced Monday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles, who ended the 2013 campaign ranked No. 23, return five starters from a squad which went 26-6, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship and claimed their first BIG EAST Conference regular season and tournament titles in program history.

Marquette sits just four spots outside the top 25 and will have eight matches in 2014 against teams currently either ranked or receiving votes.

MU opens the season against UC-Santa Barbara (RV) on Aug. 30 at the Rams Volleyball Classic and will also face tournament-host No. 18 Colorado State (Aug. 31) during the opening weekend in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Other teams on the Golden Eagles’ schedule appearing in Monday’s release include No. 10 Florida, No. 13 Florida State, No. 23 Creighton, No. 24 American and UT-San Antonio (RV).

The BIG EAST Conference is expected to unveil its preseason coaches’ poll and all-conference selections the week of Aug. 18.
