MILWAUKEE - Marquette University women's volleyball players Lindsey Gosh and Elizabeth Koberstein finished as runners up at the National Collegiate Sand Volleyball Association (NCSVA) Collegiate Championships in Long Beach, Calif., on July 27.

Gosh, a junior, and Koberstein, a senior, advanced to the national championship after placing second at the NCSVA Great Lakes Regional Championship, which was held on June 23 at Bradford Beach in downtown Milwaukee.

"The NCSVA Championships were a great opportunity for us to play against some different teams outside of the Milwaukee area," Koberstein said. "We also were lucky enough to see some of the matches from the FIVB World Tour. Watching the top beach teams in the country is a way for us to learn new things about the sport and appreciate great volleyball. We are hopeful that some of the skills needed on the beach will translate over to indoor as well."

The duo went 2-1 in pool play to start the day at nationals as one of nine teams, and rounded out the tournament with a second-place finish overall.

The NCSVA Collegiate Championships were held in conjunction with the FIVB Grand Slam and World Series in Long Beach, Calif.

The FIVB World Tour made its way back to the United States for the first time in 10 years, bringing players from all over the world to the California beaches. Players like April Ross and Jennifer Kessy, U.S. women's beach volleyball bronze medalists at the 2012 Olympics, competed in the Grand Slam tournament.

Gosh and Koberstein are back on the hardwood with the rest of the Golden Eagles for preseason camp. They will hold their annual Fan Day on Aug. 24 at the Al McGuire Center and start the season at Bowling Green in the Hampton Inn Invitational on Aug. 30.
