LOS ANGELES--The Marquette women's volleyball team is set for its 2016 season opener on Friday and will begin with a tough test as the Golden Eagles take on No. 7 USC in the USC Baden Invitational.

MU will face the Trojans on Friday, August 26 at 10 p.m. Central time before playing again UC Irvine on Saturday, August 27 at 2 p.m. CT, and Santa Clara at 7 p.m. CT in the Galen Center on USC's campus.

The Golden Eagles are full of depth this season returning all but three players from a 2015 squad that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will have leadership from its eight-member senior class.

Volleyball Swept by No. 3 USC
The Marquette University women's volleyball team suffered a sweep at the hands of No. 3 USC on Friday Evening at the Al McGuire Center in the Marquette Challenge.

Marquette welcomes five newcomers to the roster, including three true freshmen in Allie Barber, Madeline Mosher and Lauren Speckman. Junior college transfer Manon Geoffroy and senior Geneva Yee, both defensive specialists, are also new faces to the roster, and redshirt freshmen Amanda Green and Abby Julian will also make their first appearance for the Golden Eagles.

MU will be looking to reach its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament this season and immediately face a tough test with the host Trojans and Santa Clara, also a 2015 tournament squad.

Returning All-BIG EAST first team and league preseason picks Taylor Louis and Meghan Niemann will look to lead the Golden Eagles. Louis was an AVCA All-American honorable mention and finished fifth in the nation with 4.93 kills per set and 611 total, which broke Marquette's single season kills record, while Niemann totaled 1.98 kills and 0.96 blocks per set with a .314 hitting percentage.

All three of MU's matches will be live streamed for free at, while live stats will also be available for all three matches of the weekend lineup.

Following the trip out West, MU will travel to Wichita, Kansas to compete in a two-day tournament at Wichita State.
