Newcomer Notes: Jenna Rosenthal
Aug. 26, 2014
MILWAUKEE - Quite possibly the only 6-foot-5 female civil engineering major at Marquette, middle hitter Jenna Rosenthal begins her first season with the women's volleyball program already near 50 credits into her collegiate career. The Fond du Lac, Wisconsin native left Fond du Lac High School as its career leader in blocks with a near perfect grade-point average as a member of the National Honor Society and an AP Scholar.
Rosenthal recently shared her thoughts on what makes her hometown great, her volleyball career and what she looks forward to the most during her time at Marquette.
Your impressions of Marquette after the summer and pre-season camp?
I love it. All of the people here are very friendly and happy to support you, I can definitely see myself here for another four years.
Something about Marquette and/or Milwaukee you did not know before arriving?
Marquette has a Quidditch team. I need to check that out, it sounds absolutely hilarious.
What are you looking forward to most?
I'm just looking forward to being able to work and play volleyball here. Getting into a proper routine and the swing of things for our regular season. Oh yeah, and the Big East Championships of course!
The best thing about your hometown?
Some guy from Fond du Lac has eaten Big Macs every day for the last forty years, he's up to 25,000 in his life I think...
Interesting fact about you, your family or hometown?
My great-great-grandfather (Albert J. Rosenthal) was mayor of Fond du Lac in the 1930's.
In kindergarten what did you want to be when you grew up?
I was dead set on being a gymnast in kindergarten, but my mom pointed out that I was already as tall as some Olympic gymnasts...
What do you plan on studying at Marquette?
I'll be pursuing a degree in civil engineering.
Is there a team you are looking forward to playing the most; or a trip?
I look forward to playing any team in the NCAA finals.
When did you start playing volleyball?
In seventh grade there were fifty girls who tried out and I got cut. I didn't start playing competitive volleyball until after my sophomore year with my club team, West Bend Power.
What is your most embarrassing volleyball moment?
I once went back to serve and tripped over the (painted) end line...
I would love to see Europe, it's so fascinating that everything there is so OLD and full of culture and history.
What are your interests or hobbies other than volleyball?
Other than volleyball I like to read... do my homework? :/
Anything peanut butter. Trail mix, cookies, bars... you name it.
Favorite sports team(s)?
I don't really have a favorite team, the Brewers are very cool. I used to go to a lot of Timber Rattlers (a feeder team in the minors for the Brewers) and now Scooter Gennett and Khris Davis are playing for the Brewers. I cheered for them before they went big!
Last concert you attended?
Fall Out Boy and Paramore at Summerfest.
I find myself shopping at American Eagle quite a bit, but I love Vanity, mainly because they have jeans that are long enough!
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat?
Twitter. I never really tweet much, I just use it to see what everyone else is saying.
Funniest teammate at MU?
I have to say Jackie Kocken can be very funny when she wants to be.
