Allie Barber is BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

Aug. 29, 2017

MILWAUKEE — Marquette University Outside hitter Allie Barber took home BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors for her performance in the Rainbow Wahine Tournament that saw the Golden Eagles take on three ranked teams.

The weekly award marks the first for Barber, who added a BIG EAST weekly honor roll distinction last year on the way to All-BIG EAST first team honors in her debut season.

The Golden Eagles went 1-2 in Honolulu, including an upset over host No. 20 Hawai’i. In that victory, Barber racked up 22 kills and eight digs to begin her sophomore campaign. The preseason All-BIG EAST team honoree also notched 18 kills against No. 13 UCLA and 13 kills against No. 22 San Diego State. She is averaging 4.83 kills per set, good for second in the conference. Barber also added 1.33 digs per set and hit .304, recording two aces and 6.0 blocks.

Barber and the Golden Eagles next take on Miami of Ohio, Wichita State and IUPUI in a non-conference tournament taking place in Indianapolis, Sept. 1-2.
