Niemann and Louis Earn Weekly Honors

NEW YORK--Marquette University women's volleyball redshirt junior Meghan Niemann has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while redshirt freshman Taylor Louis has earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors the conference office announced Monday afternoon. Marquette opened the 2015 season, 3-0 at the Cyclone Invitational, including a sweep of then-No. 21 Iowa State.

Niemann leads the conference in hitting percentage (.538) after totaling 32 kills with just four errors as Marquette defeated North Dakota, Dayton and the Cyclones, in Ames. The Jackson, Wis. native had a career-high 21 kills over North Dakota and hit .679 with just two errors in a 3-1 victory to open the tournament.

Louis posted 27 kills in her collegiate debut and leads the league in kills (59) and kills per set (5.90) after the opening weekend. A native of Skokie, Ill, Louis had double-figure kills in each of the three matches, with 15 against No. 21 Iowa State. She also totaled 26 digs and assisted on six blocks in the three matches.

The Golden Eagles dropped just one set in the three matches and began receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll following their undefeated weekend.

Marquette will return to action Friday, Sept. 4 and travel to Springfield, Missouri for the Dr. Jo Wynn Invitational at Missouri State. MU will face Oral Roberts at 4 p.m. CT before facing Miami and Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 5.
