Kintzel Named to BIG EAST Volleyball Honor Roll

NEW YORK – Redshirt junior Courtney Kintzel of Marquette was named to the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after hitting .500 in three matches at the Rams Volleyball Classic in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Kintzel started the first two matches of her MU career on Saturday, Aug. 30 in Marquette sweeps of UC Santa Barbara and VCU and played in all nine sets on the weekend.

The Mount Vernon, Iowa native posted four kills and two blocks in her MU debut against the Gauchos and followed that up with five kills and four blocks in Saturday’s nightcap against VCU, while hitting .625.

Against then-No. 18 Colorado State on Sunday, Kintzel posted a team-high eight kills and hit .571. In all, she notched just one error and 17 kills on 32 attacks.

Kintzel was an All-Missouri Valley Conference Second Team performer last season at Northern Iowa.

Marquette will travel to Washington, D.C., for the American Volleyball Classic, on Sept. 5-6 in which they will take on No. 8 Florida State and (RV) American, both NCAA Sweet 16 participants from a year ago.

The Golden Eagles are receiving votes (47 points) in Monday’s AVCA Coaches Poll, while American is receiving 111 points, just one spot outside the top 25.
