MILWAUKEE - Freshmen Lauren Houg joins Marquette as a defensive specialist, and she has a lot to live up to. Eventually undertaking the task of replacing seniors in the likes of Julie Jeziorowski, Catherine Mayer, and Rachel Stier is no easy feat. 

Averaging 6.6 digs per set at Wayzata High School during her final two seasons, Houg finished her high school career with 1,428 digs leading her to first team AAA all-state honors as a senior. The Plymouth, Minn. native has big shoes to fill as she joins the Marquette's women's volleyball program.

GoMarquette.com: Why did you choose Marquette?
Houg: I chose Marquette because it feels like home to me. The people are great and the volleyball program is outstanding. I really got along well with the coaches and the team so I knew that I would fit in here. 

GoMU: What is your most embarrassing volleyball moment?
Houg: As a defender I get hit in the face sometimes by attackers. It's definitely embarrassing but I don't show that I'm embarrassed by laughing it off.

GoMU: What is your proudest volleyball achievement to date?
Houg: Committing to play for Marquette University

GoMU: In kindergarten what did you want to be when you grew up?
Houg: I wanted to be a doctor.

GoMU: What do you plan on studying at Marquette?/What are your career goals?
Houg: I plan on majoring in education. I love working with kids and i hope to become a teach someday. I would also love to coach volleyball!



GoMU: What are you looking forward to most in college?
Houg:  I am looking forward to being part of a championship team and meeting tons of great people!

GoMU: What made you start playing volleyball?
Houg: I started playing because my older sister played. She would play with me in ou back yard. It was really fun to me so I decided to tryout!

GoMU: What is your biggest pet peeve?
Houg: When people leave their blinker on for too long in the car.

GoMU: What are your interests or hobbies other than volleyball?
Houg: Hanging out with friends, going up to my cabin, reading and being active.

GoMU: Favorite food(s)?
Houg: Pancakes

GoMU: If you could be any animal, which one would you choose and why?
Houg: A sloth. They're the most laid back animal of them all.
