Volleyball Drops Season Opener to Saint Louis, 3-1
After claiming the opening set of the season 25-20, the Marquette University women's volleyball team dropped the next three sets and fell to Saint Louis, 3-1, in the first match of the Hawkeye Challenge Friday afternoon at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Marquette's schedule has three consecutive road weekends before playing in its first home game and the Golden Eagles own a 4-2 record through the first two weeks of the season, including a four-set victory at then-No. 7 USC. MU most recently went 2-1 at the Shocker Volleyball Classic, falling in straight sets, to host Wichita State, but earned quality victories over IUPUI and Cincinnati.

Redshirt sophomore Taylor Louis was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after a stellar weekend on the court that had her average 4.50 kills per set and 2.80 digs and earn a spot on the all-tournament team. The Skokie, Illinois native is averaging 3.48 kills per frame, which leads MU and 2.17 digs.

Senior libero Lauren Houg has picked right up for her excellent junior season and is averaging 4.91 digs per set, which ranks second in the BIG EAST and 47th in the NCAA. Houg was mentioned on the honor roll in week one of action and is boasting a season-best 25 digs against UC Irvine.

Redshirt sophomore and redshirt senior Jenna Rosenthal and Meghan Niemann lead the Golden Eagles in blocking with 0.96 and 0.87 blocks, respectively, while Marquette is combining for 2.13 blocks per set, which ranks third in the BIG EAST. MU is also holding opponents to just a .176 hitting percentage, third in the league and held IUPUI to a .079 clip last weekend, a season-best for the Golden Eagles.

Following the tournament, Marquette will host its annual Marquette Invitational, beginning with Iowa State on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. CT, which marks the home opener.
