Marquette heads home after starting the season 3-3 following a pair of tournaments in Hawaii and Indianapolis. The Golden Eagles have already played three ranked teams on the season and notched an upset against No. 20 Hawaii to start the season. They are coming off a 2-1 weekend where they defeated Miami of Ohio and IUPUI while dropping a match against Wichita State.

Marquette has already taken home a pair of conference honors over the first two weeks of the season. Sophomore Allie Barber won BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for her play in Hawaii and comes into Friday's action averaging 4.54 kills per set and .62 blocks. Freshman Libero Martha Konovodoff won BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors for her performance in Indianapolis after notching a league-high 27 digs against IUPUI and adding 24 digs against Wichita State. Friday's showdown is the 25th meeting between Marquette and Loyola-Chicago and first since 2013. The Ramblers hold the 14-10 series edge, but the Golden Eagles swept them in their last match-up. Loyola is 1-5 on the season after losing its first five before defeating Samford 3-1 Sunday afternoon.

The matchup between the Golden Eagles and the Wildcats marks the second season in a row these teams have faced off. Kentucky holds a 2-1 series edge, but Marquette took home last year's match, 3-1 in Lexington.
