Bailey on BIG EAST Volleyball Honor Roll
Sept. 8, 2014
NEW YORK - Marquette University sophomore outside hitter Autumn Bailey was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for women's volleyball, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Bailey led the Golden Eagles to a sweep of (RV) American and a tough five-set loss at the hands of then-No. 8 Florida State in Washington, D.C., with 4.00 kills per set. The BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year posted a match-high 15 kills and hit .394 in Friday's win over American with nine digs and three blocks. She also paced MU against the Seminoles with 17 kills.
It is the second BIG EAST weekly honor roll mention of Bailey's career, although the Burlington, Ontario native did earn conference freshman of the week six times as a rookie in 2013.
The Golden Eagles resume action on Friday, Sept. 12 with their first home matches of the season against James Madison (11 a.m.) and Rice (7 p.m.) at the Al McGuire Center. Marquette will also face Green Bay (noon) and UT San Antonio (8 p.m.) on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Friday's early match will feature free admission for Marquette faculty and staff as well as concession specials, while the Golden Eagles will host a welcome back barbecue on Henke Field (just to the south of the Al McGuire Center) at 6 p.m. Friday, prior to MU's match against Rice.
The Golden Eagles are receiving votes (50 points) in Monday's AVCA Coaches Poll and sit just one spot outside the top 25 nationally.
