Barber on BIG EAST Volleyball Honor Roll

NEW YORK – Marquette University sophomore outside hitter Nele Barber was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for women’s volleyball, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

Barber led the Golden Eagles to a 3-1 record in the Marquette Invitational, while earning all-tournament honors. The native of Berlin, Germany posted 15 kills in each of MU’s Saturday victories over Green Bay and UTSA and 12 in a sweep of James Madison on Friday afternoon. For the weekend, Barber put up averages of 3.13 kills, 0.93 digs and 0.80 blocks per set and hit a combined .252.

The honor marks Barber’s first career appearance on the weekly honor roll, while she earned recognition as the league’s freshman of the week twice during 2013 and was also named to the all-tournament team at the conference championship.

Marquette (6-3) returns to action on Friday, Sept. 19 at No. 7 Florida and will also face UCF in Orlando on Saturday and a neutral site match against Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon at Oviedo High School.
