Volleyball Travels to Green Bay on Tuesday

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's volleyball team will take a respite from tournament action with a midweek match at the Kress Center against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
Marquette (4-3) is coming off a 2-1 showing at the Hilton Garden Inn/Homewood Suites FGCU Airport Volleyball Classic in which it defeated Florida Gulf Coast (3-0) and Central Arkansas (3-2) and was swept by then-No. 3 Penn State. Junior right-side hitter Lindsey Gosh and senior setter Elizabeth Koberstein were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts in Fort Myers.
Gosh's impressive showing against Central Arkansas helped the Golden Eagles overcome a 2-1 deficit to pull out the victory on Saturday afternoon. The Oconomowoc, Wis., native landed 17 kills and a career-high eight blocks in the win over the Sugar Bears and hit .412 to up her season hitting percentage to .318, good for eighth in the BIG EAST Conference. She also leads the league with 0.50 service aces per set and had five in the win over UCA.
The match marks the 38th meeting all-time between the in-state foes and is the home opener for the Phoenix and new head coach Michaela Franklin, an MU assistant coach from 2009-12 under Bond Shymansky. The Golden Eagles have won 13-straight matches against Green Bay with the last loss coming in five sets on Sept. 17, 1996. MU has also captured five victories in a row at Green Bay (last loss at GB: 3-0 on Sept. 20, 1994).

GOSH EARNS FIRST BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR: Marquette junior right-side hitter Lindsey Gosh was earned the first BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nod of her career on Monday afternoon. Gosh led the Golden Eagles to a pair of victories over tournament-host Florida Gulf Coast and Central Arkansas and a loss to then-No. 3 Penn State in Fort Myers, Fla. The Oconomowoc, Wis., native notched a season-high 17 kills against Central Arkansas to go along with a season-high five service aces and a career-high eight blocks. She also hit .412 against the Sugar Bears and a combined .342 over the weekend while earning all-tournament honors.
