Marquette Travels to Xavier to Continue BIG EAST Play

CINCINNATI, Ohio--The Marquette University women's volleyball team travels to Cincinnati, Ohio on Wednesday, Sept. 27 to take on Xavier in its fourth BIG EAST match of the season. First serve is slated for 5 p.m. Central time at the Cintas Center.

The Golden Eagles (9-5, 3-0 BIG EAST) have swept each BIG EAST opponent in three sets and have not dropped a set in four straight contests. Sophomore Allie Barber continues to lead the BIG EAST in kills with 4.56 per set, which is 16th nationally, while classmate Lauren Speckman leads the squad in assists, handing out 12.10 per set, which ranks fourth overall in the NCAA. Jenna Rosenthal was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week helping MU to a 3-0 weekly record. The redshirt junior connected on 3.67 kills per set and hit a blistering .519 and increased her block average to 1.12 each contest.
The Musketeers (6-9, 1-1 BIG EAST) are coming off a 3-1 loss against Butler on Saturday afternoon. Senior Kristen Massa leads Xavier with 3.36 per set, which is seventh overall in the league. Junior Meredith Klare has collected 4.30 digs per set, which is second in the league.
Marquette owns a narrow 10-9 advantage all-time in the series with Xavier, splitting last season's regular series matchups, with each team winning on its home floor, but the Musketeers earned a 3-1 win in the 2016 BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals.
Marquette returns to the Al McGuire Center on Saturday, Sept. 30 to take on DePaul at 6 p.m. CT.
