Marquette Concludes Homestand Hosting Butler on Wednesday

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University women's volleyball team concludes a six-match homestand on Wednesday when the Golden Eagles host Butler at 7 p.m. CT. The game will stream live for free on

Marquette is looking to continue its momentum after recording a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-20) sweep over DePaul on Saturday evening. Taylor Louis and Joy Miley led the offense with 11 kills apiece, while Sarah Blasier dished out a match-high 34 assists.

Miley earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as she led MU with 3.50 kills for the week and was the only Golden Eagle to notched double-digit kills in both games last week. The Golden Eagles went 1-1 to open conference play, falling to Xavier in straight sets for their lone loss of the week.

Last season Marquette and Butler split the season series with each team winning on its home court, but the Bulldogs own a 7-5 advantage in the overall series. In 2013 the Golden Eagles met Butler three times and posted a 3-1 victory in each match.

BUTLER [ 5-10 (2-1 BIG EAST) | | @ButlerVB]: Butler swept Providence on Saturday the and tallied its fifth win of the season and second of BIG EAST play. The Bulldogs dropped their conference home opener to St. John's, but rallied to get a 3-2 win over DePaul the following game. Early in their season the squad went on a five game losing streak that was snapped by their victory against UIC. Last time out, Anna Logan was the team leader with 13 kills. Sophomore setter MaKayla Ferguson recorded a match high of 30 assists. Ferguson almost completed a double- double also adding eight digs.Mary Striedl, was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll as she recorded a team-high 52 kills, 4.00 per set to go along with 4.38 points per set and hit .416 over three matches. Joy Miley was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as she led MU with 3.50 kills per set in a 1-1 week for the Golden Eagles. This was the first weekly honor for the junior, but the fifth time in as many weeks that Marquette had a player earn a weekly award. Taylor Louis was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Aug. 31 and Sept. 21 and the BIG EAST honor roll on Sept. 7 and Sept. 14. Redshirt junior Meghan Niemann was selected as BIG EAST Player of the Week on Aug. 31.

Taylor Louis' is third in the NCAA in kills per set with 5.15 and total kills with 278, but she leads the BIG EAST Conference. Also in the top-25 among national rankings is junior libero Lauren Houg who leads the BIG EAST with 5.28 digs per set and ranks 16th in the NCAA. Sara Blasier is second in the league with 10.70 assists per set, while Jenna Rosenthal is fourth in blocks per set with 1.20.

• As a squad Marquette is establishing itself as one of the top teams in the BIG EAST Conference. The Golden Eagles are second overall in assists, dishing out 12.98 per set, which is 41st nationally, while the squad is second in digs with 16.61 per contest, which ranks 25th in the NCAA. MU is third in the league with 13.72 kills per set.

• MU is in the middle of a six-match homestand to close out the month of September. Since the 2011 season the Golden Eagles are 55-14 at the Al McGuire Center, including an 11-3 record in 2014.

• Three different MU players have tallied double-doubles this season. Sara Blasier has recorded four (8/28 vs. North Dakota, 8/29 vs. Dayton, 9/4 vs. Oral Roberts, 9/19 vs. IUPUI), Taylor Louis has also tallied four (9/4 vs. Oral Roberts, 9/5 vs. Miami, 9/18 vs. Wichita State, 9/19 vs. Albany), and Mary Nilles posted one against Northern Colorado on 9/12.

• Three of MU's five losses have come in close, five-set matches. The Golden Eagles have played in four matches that went to a fifth set and owns just a 1-3 record when this occurs.

Ellen Hays collected a career-best 21 digs in a win over IUPUI on Sept. 19 which toppled her previous career high of 16 digs.

Taylor Louis posted a career-best 30 kills in a 3-1 victory at Missouri State on Sept. 5, which is the most kills tallied in a four-set match in the NCAA this season and is the third-highest kills total by a BIG EAST player this season. Louis has the third and fourth-highest kills total in a match by a league player.

• Marquette earned the AVCA team academic award for the 2014-15 season. The Golden Eagles combined for a 3.34 GPA during the 2014-15 academic year to earn the team award for the third straight year. Seven returning student-athletes earned the 2014-15 BIG EAST All-Academic Team award for posting a GPA of 3.0 or better.

UP NEXT: Marquette will begin a four-match road swing against BIG EAST opponents. The Golden Eagles play at Villanova on Friday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. CT before facing Seton Hall at 5 pm CT on Saturday.
