Marquette Hosts Georgetown and Villanova

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's volleyball team opens a three-match homestand this weekend beginning on Friday, Sept. 30 when the squad welcomes Georgetown to the Al McGuire Center at 7 p.m. Central time.
The Golden Eagles are coming off of a 1-1 weekend, which opened the BIG EAST season. Marquette dropped the opening match at Creighton, 3-0, before bouncing back with a sweep over Providence, which improved the overall record to 11-3.
Redshirt sophomore Taylor Louis is on the BIG EAST honor roll, her third consecutive weekly award and currently leads the Golden Eagles with 4.39 kills per set, which ranks second in the BIG EAST. Louis is also hitting a .261 clip and averages 2.12 digs per set.
Redshirt senior Meghan Niemann tied Marquette's all-time block assist record against Providence last weekend and has 364 in her career. Niemann is hitting .332 and averaging 0.90 blocks per set, while fellow middle blocker Jenna Rosenthal leads the Golden Eagles with 1.02 blocks per set, which ranks sixth in the league.
Senior libero Lauren Houg leads Marquette and the BIG EAST with 5.35 digs per set and is among the national leaders at 11th in the NCAA, while leading the Golden Eagles' squad that combines for 17.10 digs per set, ranking 16th in the nation.
Georgetown enters the match with a 5-11 record and 1-1 mark in BIG EAST play with the lone win coming in a 3-0 sweep over Villanova. Symone Speech is hitting a league-best .387 clip for the Hoyas, while Alyssa Sinnette is averaging 3.62 kills per set, which is fifth in the BIG EAST.
Villanova is currently 11-5 overall and 2-1 in conference action, but will play at DePaul on Friday night before heading to Marquette for a 6 p.m. CT start. The Wildcats are led offensively by Allie Loitz, averaging 3.84 kills per set, which ranks third behind Louis. Michaela Berendt is hitting .358, while Emma Decker leads the BIG EAST dishing out 11.51 assists per match, which is seventh in the NCAA. Villanova combines to average 13.94 kills per set, which is third in the league.
Friday is 90's night at the Al and the first 200 student get to sport a fanny pack with free pizza and treats. Come dressed in your best 90's attire for a chance to win prizes.
Marquette will remain home for the beginning of MU Homecoming week as the squad will host Xavier on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at a special Noon CT start time.
