Sept. 30, 2009
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's volleyball team will partake in Dig Pink, a nationwide event supporting the fight against breast cancer, at its home match against Rutgers on Sunday, Oct. 4. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
"The nationwide effort to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer is a great cause for our team to undertake," said head coach Bond Shymansky, "there is no better way for our team to do it than the Dig Pink event this weekend. We would love to see people step up and contribute per dig or a one-time contribution toward the cause. And come out and inspire our team to play even better defense and put up big dig numbers this weekend."
Fans can support the cause by making pledges for each dig the team records, purchasing special "Dig Pink" t-shirts, wearing pink to the match, and participating in breast cancer survivor recognition between the second and third sets.
All proceeds from the day will benefit the Side Out Foundation, which provides funding to research units and organizations that give medical and emotional support to those with cancer.
Fans that would like to make a pledge for each dig can fill out a donation form and send it to the Marquette marketing department, or make a pledge the day of the match. The form can be found here.
