Marquette Welcomes Xavier on Kid's Day at the Al

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's volleyball team has a quick turnaround and returns to the court on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Noon Central time, hosting Xavier at the Al McGuire Center for Kid's Day. Multiple local schools will be in attendance to watch the Golden Eagles and enjoy great concession deals.

In addition to kid's day, all faculty and staff that wish to attend will receive free admission as part on MU Homecoming.

The Marquette University women's volleyball team closed out the 2015 regular season with a 3-1 (30-32, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19) loss at Xavier on Saturday evening at the Cintas Center.

Marquette (12-4, 2-2) is coming off of a 1-1 weekend with a 3-1 win over Georgetown before falling 3-1 to Villanova, led by 19 kills from both Jenna Rosenthal and Taylor Louis. Rosenthal's 19 kills was a career-best, along with a career-high .600 hitting percentage against the Wildcats, which helped her to a BIG EAST weekly honor roll nod.

Louis leads Marquette with 4.42 ills per set, which ranks 21st nationally, while senior libero Lauren Houg averages 5.28 digs per set, which is 14th in the NCAA. The Golden Eagles continue to be a tough defensive team as they lead the BIG EAST in digs per set with 17.05, which is 14th in the NCAA, while their hitting percentage of .258 is also among the league leaders.

Senior Meghan Niemann became MU's all-time leader in block assists over the weekend and is averaging 0.89 blocks per set, while leading Marquette with a .348 season hitting percentage and 2.11 kills/set. Rosenthal is averaging 1.09 blocks, which ranks fifth in the conference.


 

 

Xavier is 8-9 overall heading into Wednesday's match and is tied with Marquette at a 2-2 mark in the BIG EAST. Senior Abbey Bessler leads the Musketeers with 3.70 kills per set, which is fifth in the league, and has nine double-doubles this season, including three matches with 20-or-more kills. Kristen Massa is averaging 2.59 kills per set for Xavier.

Wednesday's match will be a battle between two of the best blocking teams in the league as Marquette averages 2.24 blocks per set, while Xavier comes in at 2.22/set, led by Alexis Newsome's 1.17 per outing.
