Marquette's Barber on BIG EAST Volleyball Honor Roll

Barber has thrived in four career matches against Creighton by hitting .325 with nearly four kills per set.

NEW YORK – Marquette University sophomore outside hitter Nele Barber was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for women’s volleyball, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

Barber posted 3.14 kills and 2.43 digs per set in a 1-1 weekend for the Golden Eagles. The native of Berlin, Germany hit a combined .276 against Georgetown and Creighton, including .318 in the sweep of the Hoyas. Barber notched 14 kills and 10 digs in the 3-1 loss to Creighton on Saturday for the first double-double of her career.

In four matches against the Bluejays over the last two seasons, Barber has put up 3.71 kills per set and hit .325 in two victories and a pair of defeats.

The honor marks Barber’s second appearance on the weekly honor roll this season, while she earned recognition as the league’s freshman of the week twice during 2013 and was also named to the all-tournament team at the conference championship.

Marquette (12-4, 3-1 BIG EAST) returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8 against Xavier at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati and will also play at DePaul on Saturday evening.
