The Marquette women's volleyball team heads to the East Coast this weekend to face St. Johns' on Friday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. Central time on ESPN3 and Seton Hall on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. C.T. in New Jersey.
The Golden Eagles are fresh off of victory as the squad defeated Xavier 3-0 Wednesday afternoon at home as part of Marquette homecoming, improving their BIG EAST record to 3-2 and overall record to 13-4.
Redshirt sophomore Jenna Rosenthal hit seven kills for a career best .636 clip while senior setter Sara Blasier handed out 32 assists with eight digs and two blocks, while redshirt sophomore Taylor Louis tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs.
Friday's match will showcase two of the league's best blocking teams as St. John's leads the BI EAST at 3.02 blocks per set, while MU ranks third among conference teams with 2.26 blocks per outing, led by 1.10 from Rosenthal.
The Red Storm are 11-7 on the season, and 2-3 in BIG EAST conference play. St. John's defeated Georgetown and Seton Hall for its two conference victories. Marghe Bianchin leads the Red Storm with 202 kills (3.06 per set) and is hitting at a .260 clip. She also has tallied 129 digs and 48 blocks this season. Erica DiMaulo and Mo Karkkainen are the most efficient hitters on St. John's, recording .455 and .365 hitting percentages, respectively. Di Maulo was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.
Seton Hall has played to a 9-9 overall record this year, which includes a 3-2 record in the BIG EAST. The Pirates are 4-1 in home matches, recording wins against Villanova and Butler. Danielle Schroeder leads the team with 202 kills (3.06 per set) and is second on the team with a .298 hitting percentage. Tessa Fournier leads the Pirates defensively, tallying 304 digs in the team's first 18 contests.
Marquette is in the middle of a stretch that has the team playing six matches in 13 days. The Golden Eagles return home to host Butler on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. CT.
Senior setter Sara Blasier and redshirt sophomore Tayor Louis have both tallied multiple double-doubles this season. Blasier has recorded a team-high seven, while Louis has four, including her most recent 13 kills, 10 digs effort in the win over Xavier.
The NCAA released its first official RPI this week and Marquette checks in at No. 44, second in the conference to Creighton at No. 29 with fellow BIG EAST school Villanova also in the top-50 at No. 49.
Marquette is holding opponents to just a .184 hitting percentage, while Friday's opponent St. John's is keeping opponent to .176 hitting.
Marquette boasts the highest hitting percentage in the BIG EAST at a .261 clip, while four Golden Eagles rank in the top-25 of league leaders. Meghan Niemann and Jenna Rosenthal are fifth (.358) and sixth (.352), respectively, while freshman Allie Barber is hitting .259, which ranks 21st, and Taylor ouis is hitting .255 coming in at 23rd in the conference.

A late rally by the Marquette University women’s volleyball team was not enough to overcome St. John’s as the squad fell, 3-2 (25-15, 13-15, 28-30, 25-19, 15-11) to the Red Storm on Saturday afternoon at Carnesecca Arena.
